Having read all of Austen’s novels, I would say that the essentials are only Pride and Prejudice and Lady Susan. This wasn't so bad but once you have read the aforementioned, you have basically covered all of Austen's range. Is she overrated? Maybe in the contents and range of her writing but her style and authorship are top class.With all the preoccupation with money and having read Mansfield Park before I couldn't help thinking on what all this leisure, property and marriage maneuvering was really built upon. Lastly, after completely this book in my opinion Ms Austen was quite the misanthrope and specifically dislikes anyone that does not bear resemblance to her tastes and constitution.
